Train is the most commonly used public transportation in Japan. Around 56% people take train to work or school everyday in Tokyo. So for travelers in Japan, taking a train is also a good way to move around. And here are some things that you have to be careful while taking a Japanese train.

Don’t get on the train before people who want to get off did.

Stand off to the side when the train arrives. And let passengers who want to get off do it before you get on the train. This helps things to go smoother. And it helps passengers including yourself to save more time.

Wear your backpack in your front.

Cause the backpack is outside the holder’s sight. Holders are often not aware when their backpacks are getting in others way, or even hitting other people. So when the train is crowded, wear your backpack in your front.  This could also help you prevent getting your stuff stolen.

Don‘t talk loudly.

Keep in mind that train is also a public place. So you should always keep you voice low in order not to trouble other passengers. Also, talking on a phone is not allowed on the train in Japan.

And please remember to mute your phone before getting on the train.

Move inside after you get on the train.

After getting on a train, move inside to give space for other passengers to get on. Staying around the door will be easy for you to get off the train, but it makes you get into others way.

There are cars that are only for female.

Gentlemen! Watch out before you get on the train. There are cars that are only for women. Especially in the rush hour, usually the first car or the last car will become a women only car. So check before you get on the train.
