1.What is ballroom dance?

First of all, ballroom dance is the most characteristic dance that is evaluated as a pair of men and women. The sense of unity between the two and the appeal to the judges will be judged. It is roughly divided into “Standard” and “Latin”.

The standard consists of five types: waltz, tango, slow foxtrot, quickstep, and viennese waltz, and the feature is that men and women dance in a tightly-knit form called “hold” from the beginning to the end.

Latin is composed of five types: cha-cha-cha, samba, rumba, pasodoble, and jive, and is characterized by a sensual dance in which men and women repeatedly form and separate.

The movie “Shall We Dance?” Was a hit and was made into a movie overseas, so it attracted a little attention, but it is still not very well known in Japan and the competition population is not very large. I hope this article will make you interested in ballroom dancing as much as possible.

2.Standard dress

The standard dress features a long skirt that looks like a princess and a cloth part called “float” that hangs from the wrist. Some skirts have wide hem and some are like mermaids along the body line. There are various types of floats. Generally, it is connected from the tip of the middle finger to the waist.

3.Latin dress

Latin dresses are characterized by more exposed skin than standard dresses. Also, there is no fixed dress type, so there are a lot of variations. Pants-style dresses are also available.

4.Relationship between dress and event

There is a big relationship between dress design and dance. Basically, the design of the dress has nothing to do with the evaluation of the competition. However, the presence of the dress is important for manipulating the person’s motivation and impression on the judges.

The most representative of these is the Latin Pasodoble skirt. Pasodoble is a dance inspired by bullfighting and has a flamenco-like choreography. At that time, wearing a long skirt that is not seen in other events and dancing while grasping the hem creates a more bullfighting feel.

Also, the image by color is important. In standard tango, many people choose red or black dresses to express their passion. It is also said that white dresses are easy to get attention.

Samba, a Latin event, prefers clear primary colors such as yellow.

In this way, you may decide on a dress according to your specialty, but the most important thing is to wear a dress that suits you.

Because there are so many kinds of dresses, it is important to choose the dress that suits you best from various points of view. I don’t know if you can wear a dress like this once in your lifetime, so everyone should start ballroom dancing and wear a dress!
