I went to Tochigi with my friends last spring for a one night and two days trip. I went to various place during this trip. Here are five places I’m glad I went to.
This time, I drove car from Kanagawa, but it took 4 hours one way. Very far!

1. The inn where I stayed is ‘Yunokura’
First, I would like to introduce the inn where I stayed on the first day. The name of the inn is ‘Yunokura’. This is located in Nikko City. Below is a photo of this place. As you can see, this is a very luxurious inn. There is a famous river called ‘Kinugawa’ in the immediate vicinity, and you can always feel the sound of the river. I don’t have a photo, but the best thing about this inn is the hot springs. This hot spring was the best feeling to heal the tiredness of the trip! I wanted to come here again if I had the opportunity.
2. World heritage ‘Nikko Toshogu’
On the morning of the second day, I went to Nikko Toshogu. This was the first time since I was in the sixth grade of elementary school. At that time, Toshogu was under construction and I didn’t know what kind of atmosphere it was, but the situation at that time was very fantastic. Toshogu was shining golden and beautiful. Also, I was able to see three monkeys, which raised my tension. Finally, I drew a fortune here. The result was ‘Kichi’. It was a very normal result. I wish the result was a little more interesting. Overall, I’m glad I went.
3. The whole picture of ‘Utsunomiya dumplings’
On the afternoon of second day, I moved from Nikko Toshogu to Utsunomiya City and ate Utsunomiya dumplings. Utsunomiya City was so popular with dumpling shops that it could be called a dumpling town. None of the dumpling shops could enter in a large line. I waited for about an hour and finally I was able to eat dumplings. It’s incredibly delicious! It was the most delicious dumpling I had ever eaten. Be sure to eat this when you go to Tochigi prefecture. Finally, there are various types of Utsunomiya dumplings. I couldn’t eat all kinds, but if you read this blog, please try all kinds if you have a chance to go to Tochigi prefecture!
4. A historical treasure house ‘Oya Museum’
After eating dumpling in Utsunomiya City, I went to the quarry site called Oya Museum in the suburbs of Utsunomiya. This is a very famous place with a track record of shooting many dramas and movies. Regarding the stones excavated here, I was able to learn about the excavation method, the state of the quarry, and the transition from carrying out stones to transporting them. In addition, the machine was introduced when the stone mining was mechanized. As you can see, there were a lot of exhibits with very interesting contents.
